We've had an interesting 5 days. Leroy has had 2 snotty-nose type colds this winter, and the last one, his third, took hold and got worse. On Tuesday night Leroy's breathing became worse and worse - very fast and shallow and we called an ambulance.
After about 40 minutes some wonderful women arrived in the ambulance and off Leroy went being cuddled on Peter's chest. A much nicer ride than the one just after his birth. He was in a very bad way when he arrived at emergency. An x-ray discovered an infection on the left side of his lung (pneumonia). To his credit, Leroy responded very quickly to the antibiotics and a little bit of oxygen, and our pediatrician was again surprised by Leroy.
It was a very different experience being at the RCH this time. The ward was much more relaxed, we had a room to ourselves with a beautiful view of the surrounding parkland, a single bed (which was also a couch by day), toilet, shower, TV and fridge. This made it really easy for one of us to stay with Leroy pretty much all the time (especially overnight). Once again my sister Katrina and mum Brenda came to the rescue, taking care of Dylan and us, which made the whole thing far smoother.
The house was so so quiet and empty without Leroy, but I did get the best sleep I have had in about 6 months, and I am very thankful! So now after 4 nights we are all together back home, safe and sound. Leroy has again showed us how strong he is and we are so thankful to have him back home.
